Class Info & Dress Code
Lejeune Dance Company offers a variety of classes for all ages! Our classes are fun, engaging, and focus on the whole child, dance technique and proper training.
Ballet
Ages 6+
Ballet is considered to be the foundation of Western artistic dance. It provides a disciplined, structured technique to choreographed movements. Dancers will learn proper body placement, strengthen muscles and build technique. We teach a combination of ballet methods including RAD and Vaganova. Ages 6+
Dress Code: Girls- Black leotard, pink or skin-toned dance tights, skin-toned ballet shoes (form fitting, not sized up please). NO satin slippers- must be leather or canvas. Hair must be in a bun. Boys - Black or white shirt, black shorts or pants, black ballet shoes.
Ballet/Tap Combo Classes
Ages 3-6
Our early childhood classes are a fun way for children to explore and develop a love for dance. Students will learn about pre-ballet basics and rhythm. Students will build on motor skills, balance and coordination while working on flexibility and strength.
Dress Code: Girls- Light pink leotard (may have tutu or skirt), skin tone tights, skin tone leather ballet shoes. (black tap shoes for combo classes only). NO satin slippers- must be leather. VELCRO TAP SHOES PLEASE, No laces! Dancer's must be able to put on their own shoes unassisted. Boys- black shorts or pants with white shirt, black leather or canvas ballet shoes and black tap shoes.
Acrobatics
Ages 3+
This class focuses on strength, conditioning and flexibility. Dancers will progress to tumbling technique and learn basic jazz dance skills. The class will do a group warm-up, strength and conditioning work, and then students will work on individual tricks. LDC is an Acrobatic Arts certified studio and follows the Acrobatic Arts syllabus for training.
Dress Code: Yoga mat & yoga block required for age 7+. Girls- Black leotard and tan footless or convertible tights required. Shorts or leggings optional (must be tight fitting, nothing loose). Hair must be pulled black. No jewelry. Boys- black shorts or pants and white shirt. Bare feet - no shoes.
Hip Hop
Ages 4+
Fun and upbeat classes to child-appropriate music! Classes begin with a large group warm-up and progress toward small group/individual isolations and coordination exercises, short combinations, floor work, and routines.
Dress Code: Comfortable clothing, sneakers NOT WORN OUTSIDE (teacher will specify white or black). Please get a pair of sneakers ONLY used for dance, brought in a bag.
Jazz
Ages 6+
Jazz at LDC introduces and enhances the basic movements of jazz dance. In jazz, students will dance to fun, upbeat music while working on rhythm, pose and flexibility. Our jazz program is influenced by a number of methods and styles including classical, theater/cabaret, funk, and Fosse. The jazz class begins with a choreographed warm-up followed by isolations, technique across the floor, turns, jumps, and choreography.
Dress Code: Girls- Black leotard & nude-colored tights. Skirt or shorts optional. Tan canvas jazz boots matched to the dancer's skin tone. Hair pulled back. Boys- black shorts or pants with white shirt, black jazz shoes.

Tap
Ages 6+
Tap is a rhythmic framework for the feet and other body parts. Our tap program focuses on a combination of classical and rhythm styles. Beginning students become acquainted with basic movements of the leg, foot, and shoe and learn to dance rhythmically. Intermediate students begin to build an extensive tap vocabulary and explore more complex rhythm patterns.
Dress Code: Girls- Black leotard & tan tights. Leggings or shorts optional. Tan, lace up tap HARD SOLE tap shoes. Hair pulled back. Boys- black shorts or pants with white shirt, black hard sole tap shoes.

Musical Theatre
Ages 6+
Musical theatre is a form of theatrical performance that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting and dance. This is a jazz-based class filled with Broadway style dancing and music! This class combines the skills of dance with drama and in some cases, voice. Specialized exercises will teach students how to project emotions to an audience. A variety of theater and cinematic themes are explored through choreography.
Dress Code: Girls- Black leotard & nude-colored tights. Skirt or shorts optional. Canvas jazz boots matched to the dancer's skin tone. Hair pulled back. Lyrical & Contemporary
Ages 7+
Lyrical is a combination of ballet, jazz, and modern dance in which the dancer's primary objective is to tell a story or convey emotions. Emphasis is placed on interpreting the musical selection.
Contemporary is a fusion of many dance styles and has a strong classical foundation. Contemporary dance explores every facet of artistic expression and dance technique.
Dress Code: Girls- Black leotard & nude-colored tights. Skirt or shorts optional. Tan canvas half-sole turning shoes matched to the dancer's skin tone will be required by April 2022. Hair pulled back. Boys- black shorts or pants with white shirt, black jazz shoes.

PBT - Progressing Ballet Technique
Ages 6+
PBT- Progressing Ballet Technique is a program developed by Marie Walton-Mahon to help students advance in all dance forms by training muscle memory. PBT focuses on core stability, weight placement and alignment. This class is highly encouraged for ALL of our dancers ages 6-15! Dancers must be signed up for at least one additional class to enroll. PBT is taught by a certified instructor. PBT is a technique-based only and does not do recital. *Additional $20 fee for equipment (PBT Kit purchased from Lejeune Dance Company).
Dress Code: Girls- Black leotard, any colored tights (convertible, stirrup or footless, no shoes. Boys - White shirt, black shorts or pants, no shoes. Yoga Mat and PBT Kit.
Stretch & Strength
Age 6+
This class focuses on strength and mobility work of the body and feet. Techniques used are Alixa Flexibility modules 1 &2 and The Godfrey Method. Dancers will learn a range of strength and conditioning exercises to do on a regular basis to prepare and maintain their body and feet for optimal health, safety and readiness for acrobatic and dance training.
Dress Code: Girls- Black leotard, any colored tights (convertible, stirrup or footless, no shoes. Boys - White or black shirt, black shorts or pants, no shoes. Yoga Mat and yoga block.
Adult PBT/Barre
Ages 18+
PBT is a ballet-based exercise. In our adult class we have thrown in some barre work, pilates, and even some Zumba! We use certain equipment like a yoga ball, fusion ball, Therabands, and hand weights. More importantly, our adult class is FUN, friendly, and a great time!
Dress Code: Comfortable workout attire. Yoga Mat and Yoga Ball.
Adult Acro
Ages 18+
Adult acro will follow the Acrobatic Arts syllabus and Alixa Flexibility modules. This class is ALL levels - we welcome beginners to experienced tumblers! This class will do group cardio, strength work, and flexibility stretching and then will break into stations for acro skills based on the dancer's level. More importantly, our adult class is FUN, friendly, and a great time!
Dress Code: Comfortable workout attire. Yoga Mat
Wiggle & Move
Ages 18months - 3 years
Caregiver & Child
Wiggle and Move (18 months - age 3) is a creative movement program where students experience fun music activities that introduce basic dance movements. This class is WITH one parent, no siblings please unless they are enrolled in the class.
Dress Code: Girls- Light pink leotard, skin tone tights and skin tone ballet shoes or bare feet. NO satin slippers- must be leather . Tights optional. Boys - White shirt, black shorts or pants, black ballet shoes or bare feet.
Pre Ballet (Creative movement)
Ages 2-3
Children will enhance motor skills in a fun environment while being introduced to pre-ballet skills. Lots of props are used and games played to keep dancer engagement. This class is done independently without a parent in the room (parents may watch from our large window)!
Dress Code: Girls- Light pink leotard, skin tone tights and skin tone ballet shoes or bare feet. NO satin slippers- must be leather. Tights optional. Boys - White shirt, black shorts or pants, black ballet shoes or bare feet.
Boys Program
Ages 5+
Our dance classes are all co-ed however LDC is growing their boys only dance program! Boys classes typically focus on strength, conditioning and flexibility. The dancers will learn about counting music, feeling the rhythm, and working as a team!
Spring 2022 we will be offering Boys Ballet/Tap age 3-5, Boys Ballet/Jazz, Boys Acrobatics, Boys
Dress Code: Boys- black shorts or pants and black or white shirt. Black jazz boots.
Strength and Flexibility Training
Ages 6+
All instructors at LDC are certified in the Alixa method for safe strength and flexibility training. All of our instructors follow the same syllabus from the Alixa modules to ensure dancers follow progressions, use correct body alignment to prevent injury, and get the most out of their dance training. A huge emphasis is placed on body awareness, injury prevention, safe training, strength, mobility, and flexibility in all of our dance classes. While strength and flexibility training is incorporated into all of our age 6+ classes, as our schedule allows, we will offer individual strength/flexibility classes for students who want to enhance their training.
Dance Camp
Ages 7+
Summer dance camp is a great way to try different dance styles to see which class your child would like for the fall season! This camp runs in July for 1 week for 4 hours a day. Dancers experience multiple genres of dance, costume design, games, a water day, and lots of team building activities.
Performance Team
Invite Only
Participates must be ages 6+ and have done one season of dance with LDC. With the LDC Performance Team, your child will gain experience auditioning, performing, and being part of a team! Our team performs at local events both on base and off.
